We Are The Tacoma Rescue Mission

The Tacoma Rescue Mission is about sharing God’s love, hope, and support with our hurting neighbors. It’s been our driving purpose since 1912, when we opened our first men’s shelter.

What We Do

This ministry has since grown to provide emergency services like nutritious meals and safe shelter to individuals and families, transitional and permanent housing programs to support ongoing stability, and faith-based addiction recovery programs that empower men and women to step into new lives.

  • Emergency Services

    MEALS

Our Good Neighbor Café provides over 800 meals a day to vulnerable adults and children. Each meal can be the first step toward a new life.

    SHELTER & CARE

We offer safe refuge to men, women, and families experiencing homelessness. While staying with us, shelter guests have access to daily meals, showers, laundry, case management, housing support, youth programming, employment navigation services, veteran resources, and more.

    STREET OUTREACH

Our Street Outreach teams go to our unsheltered neighbors to offer food, clothing, living essentials, and access to life-changing resources and services.

    CLOTHING ROOM

Our clothing room is open to the public weekly, offering clothing and other living essentials to our neighbors in need.

  • Housing

Our permanent housing sites offer subsidized rent, clean and sober living, and supportive care for families as well as individuals with mental or physical disabilities exiting out of homelessness. We continue to support them through case management, mental health counseling, life-skills development, and career navigation.

  • Addiction Recovery

Our New Life Program is a twelve-month, faith-based, in-house recovery program for men and women battling addiction. We offer an environment that combines nurturing support with structure and accountability, helping restore and support all areas of life: physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and more.

The Good Neighbor Village represents a new chapter in our mission, extending our services to assist our chronically unhoused neighbors in a more permanent way. This innovative community will provide on-site supportive services aimed at restoring dignity and purpose.

Currently, the Mission is spearheading fundraising efforts for the Village and will also serve as its dedicated operators, ensuring continuous care and support for those in need.

Meet Our Neighbors

Janice’s Story

“I got a notice that my job was folding because of COVID. I lost that job. That’s when I ended up homeless,” says 62-year-old Janice sadly. “It was a real quick spin down, like I could not believe.”

Janice had been taking sponge baths in truck stop bathrooms and living out of her car. She constantly feared that someone would see her and try to hurt her, break into her car – or worse. But all those fears began to disappear when Janice got to the Mission. While at the Women’s Shelter, she had the opportunity to heal and reconnect with her family. Eventually, Janice saved enough to move back to the South, where she’s originally from.

She’s now living with one of her children, looking for work and helping to care for her infant grandson. Janice is loving the chance to be a hands-on grandma.

Our Mission

To offer God’s help, hope and healing to the most impoverished members of our community.
